JVC Professional launches 24 inch 3D production monitor and GY-HM790 camera

The new GY-HM790 camera is the flagship of the ProHD product line, offering new features for both studio and ENG applications, while implementing popular features from established ProHD models. In the studio, its modular design creates a cleaner integration for multicore or fibre-based production. In the field, its three 1/3-inch CCDs allow a lighter, more compact form factor for better manoeuvrability. It produces 1920x1080 images and can record in 1080i, 720p, and even SD (576i) for operations that have not yet made the move to HD. The camera records to solid-state memory at 35 Mbps (HQ mode/variable bit rate) or 19 Mbps/25 Mbps (SP mode/constant bit rate).D

For SD recording the GY-HM790 utilises the proven DV codec with a data rate of 25 Mbps and offers both .mov and .avi file formats, thus making recordings directly compatible with the majority of NLEs in use today. SD recording allows users not ready to make the transition to HD yet to keep their existing editing solution and make a smooth transition to HD when they are ready.

This IBC, JVC will introduce a brand new fibre optical studio solution, the CopperHead KA-F790, which is a camera adapter that connects directly to the GY-HM790 with no external cabling. This solution will expand the range of possible applications of this new ProHD camera to cover large venues and sports events that require distances in excess of 100m between the camera and the OB truck. The new fibre system, exclusively developed by Telecast Fiber Systems for the GY-HM790, will be available in two versions: one will supply power to the camera via a hybrid SMPTE 311 cable and can cover a distance of up to 500m; the second will rely on tactical fibre for signal transmission and a locally powered camera. This second system can extend the distance between camera and OB truck to 10 kilometres thus allowing the use of the GY-HM790 even in situations where extreme distances need to be bridged. The fibre system will be available with either standard SMPTE 304 connectors or the more economical OpticalCON connectors.

With broadcasters facing an expensive transition to digital television, and consumers wanting more high definition programming, JVC identified the need for affordable HD production equipment for local, regional and national network news. Since the inception of the ProHD product line, JVC has had a clear vision for ProHD and has remained true to its objectives. All three cameras in the ProHD range (the hand-held GY-HM100, the shoulder-mounted GY-HM700 and the new GY-HM790 studio/ENG camera) use industry standard long-GOP compression with a low bit rate, creating manageable data streams and file sizes. They record to inexpensive SDHC solid-state media cards, and customers love the convenience, reliability and low cost. The GY-HM100 and GY-HM700 have again been chosen by IBC TV News for filming this year’s event; the multi-media nature of IBC TV News means that a quick shoot-to-edit workflow is essential and was a key factor in their choice of camera.

D3D is one of the hot topics at IBC2010 and JVC is also unveiling a new 24" 2D and 3D professional-grade production monitor, the DT-3D24G1. Equipped with proven technology from the DT-V Series of monitors, the new 3D monitor accepts and processes signals from dual camera systems, stereo-rigs and coded Side-by-Side and Line-by-Line 3D signals. Uniquely, the monitor has a built-in 3D scale function that allows you to measure the amount of binocular disparity by pixels or percentage in real time. This is critical to broadcast delivery specifications, where they are very strict with positive and negative parameters. The 3D production monitor can also be battery operated for true field use. IBC will also feature the IF-2D3D1 3D Image Processor, which serves as a 3D L/R mixer for real-time monitoring of 3D content on location and works as a real-time 2D-to-3D converter in post, along with the GD-463D10 46-inch 3D LCD monitor, which was introduced last year. This larger 3D monitor has already been installed in several production and post-production facilities, and has become an indispensible tool for medical facilities and government agencies.

A leader in professional flat-panel displays and D-ILA projectors, JVC is spotlighting its new DT-V G Series of professional LCD monitors, which feature 3G and dual-link HD/SD-SDI (1080p/50 4:4:4) inputs. Designed to provide accurate colour reproduction for critical image evaluation, G Series monitors feature a built-in waveform monitor with over-level function, vectorscope with selectable size and position, advanced audio level meter, and LTC/VITC time code support. A new, non-glossy LCD panel Dprovides improved picture quality, while JVC's 10-bit 1080p processing ensures the highest picture quality with less than one frame of latency. In addition, JVC are introducing two cost-effective broadcast studio monitors, the new DT-R Series. These are multi-format monitors with essential features for studio applications, providing high picture quality in a simple, reliable and robust design. Available in both 17" and 24" models, the monitors feature IPS (In-Plane-Switching) LCD panels and 10-bit signal-processing, delivering excellent detail, high contrast and brilliant colour reproduction. The monitors, together with the KM-H3000 digital production switcher and its new multiviewer function, will feature on board the ‘JVC Creation Truck’, which takes centre stage at this year’s show.

Finally, JVC has expanded its line of professional combo recording decks with the new SR-HD1500 and SR-HD1250 Blu-ray disc and HDD recorders. These standalone Blu-ray recorders feature a built-in hard disk drive for easy duplication and disc authoring Dwithout a PC. Advanced MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 (H.264) encoding provides support for HD and SD sources, and a built-in format converter can downconvert HD content for recording to a standard DVD. The units support BD-R or BD-RE (erasable) Blu-ray discs.
